Mamata Banerjee to protest against Centre over tax on Durga Puja

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee criticised the Centre for issuing income tax notices to several Durga Puja committees. Banerjee said that TMC will sit on dharna on August 13 in protest against the move of the BJP-led govt at the Centre. She further said, "The Income Tax Dept has issued notices to many committees who organise Durga pujas, asking them to pay taxes. We are proud of all our national festivals. These festivals are for all and we don't want any puja festival to be taxed. This will be a burden on the organisers". Banerjee, referring to the Ganga Sagar Mela said that her govt has withdrawn tax on the annual festival. Src: https://bit.ly/31ApRCH
