United Nations calls for maximum restraint along LoC

UN appealed to India and Pakistan for maximum restraint along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kashmir region. This move is a response to ongoing tensions in Jammu and Kashmir. On August 2, the Indian Army had said that Pakistani terrorists were plotting to carry out an attack on the ongoing Amarnath Yatra and that the security forces had recovered a Pakistan Ordnance Factory anti-personnel mine from a terror supply. J&K: Kashmiri Pandits rejoice revocation of Article 370

Kashmiri Pandits across the country celebrated the announcement of the removal of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir by the Central government. Article 370 is considered to be responsible for the mass exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from Jammu and Kashmir. An estimated 200,000 to 300,000 Hindus fled the Kashmir Valley in the aftermath of an armed revolt that began in 1989. A large majority of Kashmiri Pandits living in Kashmir moved out of the Valley starting early 1990 in the wake of threats and targeting by militants. Src:https://bit.ly/2yDEgSv

Punjab CM Amarinder Singh on Article 370: BJP using brute force to violate constitutional norms

Punjab CM Amarinder Singh condemned the manner in which the Centre imposed its decision on Kashmir, saying the democratic base of the nation had been ripped apart with violation of the constitutional norms. The BJP is using its brute majority to bulldoze democratic and constitutional norms, the CM stated. "It is a dark day for Indian democracy," said Amarinder Singh, adding that the Constitution of India had been rewritten without following any legal provisions. Amarinder Singh asserted that any decision on a sensitive issue should have been taken after following due process of democratic and legal norms. Src:https://bit.ly/2MC1KQ1
