India’s first standing wheelchair launched by IIT Madras

The country’s first indigenously designed standing wheelchair was launched on Tuesday at IIT Madras Research Park. IIT Madras collaborated with Phoenix Medical Systems for this project. The assistive device helps the wheelchair-bound move from a sitting to standing position, and vice-versa, independently. The wheelchair is called ‘Arise’ the standing wheelchair and was designed and developed by the TTK Centre for Rehabilitation Research and Device Development. The project was headed by Sujatha Srinivasan. Arise will be made available at an affordable price of around ₹15,000. Thaawarchand Gehlot, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, praised all stakeholders responsible for developing the wheelchair and said he has not seen such an amazing standing wheelchair in the world. A team of IIT Madras's student wins the Elon Musk's heart with HyperLoop Pod

Avishkar Hyperloop, a team of students from the Centre for Innovation (CFI) at IIT Madras has earned the affections from SpaceX CEO, Elon Musk and Virgin Hyperloop One Co-founder, Josh Geigel. The reason behind this is the project that the team has created which can help to build an autonomous Hyperloop Pod in India. The team led by a second-year M.Tech student, Suyash Singh is working on an indigenous design and development for building the first-ever self-propelled, completely autonomous Hyperloop Pod in India. IIT Madras Sees Highest Number Of Placement Offers In Its History

When the first phase of placement process concluded on Saturday, Indian Institute of Technology or IIT, Madras, witnessed the highest ever number of job offers made in its history. As many as 888 offers made from 195 companies, including the 136 pre-placement offers, now the total number of offers stands at 1,024. NDTV
