Lockdown not enough, need to attack coronavirus: WHO Chief

The Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said several countries have announced lockdown to combat COVID-19. He further said that asking people to stay at home and shutting down population movement is buying time and reducing pressure on heath system but it cannot alone fight the epidemic. India eradicated polio & small pox, should aggressively fight COVID-19: WHO

World Health Organization executive Michael J Ryan claimed that India has tremendous capacity, it had helped other other countries to eradicate diseases like polio and small pox. He further claimed that the future of Coronavirus depends on what happens in India and China as both are largely populated countries. Earlier WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told media that "Pandemic is accelerating" as it took only 67 days to reach 1 lakh cases of Coronavirus and 11 more days to double and other four days to reach over 3 lakh cases. Lockdowns are not enough to defeat Coronavirus, says WHO

While speaking in an interview with BBC, the World Health Organization's top emergency expert Mike Ryan said on Sunday that countries can't simply lock down their societies to defeat Coronavirus. Coronavirus can sicken or kill young people: WHO

According to the World Health Organization, Coronavirus can sicken or kill young people as well and they must also avoid mingling and spreading it to older and more vulnerable people. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus informed older people are hardest hit. Data from many countries clearly show that people under 50 make up a significant proportion of patients requiring hospitalization.
