Aparna Sen and 27 others write an open letter to support Anurag Kashyap: Culture of violence spreading dangerously

Prominent members of Kolkata's civil society have come out in support of filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, following his announcement to quit microblogging site Twitter earlier this month. Filmmaker Aparna Sen, actors Parambrata Chatterjee, Kaushik Sen, and singer Anupam Roy are among the 28 eminent personalities who have written an open letter condemning 'threats of violence' against Kashyap. The letter states, "This is a matter that demands immediate attention. We strongly condemn the threats of violence, which have caused eminent filmmaker Anurag Kashyap to quit the social media platform Twitter. Should Indian govt adopt Two-Child Policy to control population explosion?

On Independence Day, PM Narendra Modi brought out India’s biggest concern of Population explosion and it not too far that India will surpass China to become the most populous country. The Two-Child Policy which is presently followed by China is a government-imposed limit of two children allowed per family. Do you think a similar policy should be adopted by India too? Hyderabad Police prohibits bursting of firecrackers at public places on Ganesh Chaturthi

Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar said that bursting firecrackers in public places and forcible fund collection is strictly prohibited during Ganesh Chaturthi from September 2 to 12. Kumar added that pandal organisers will have to seek police clearance before installing idols and Unauthorised electricity connections at pandals will not be allowed. Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) working president KT Rama Rao has also urged the people of Hyderabad to stop immersing idols in the lake during the Ganesh Utsav to prevent water pollution. BCCI reduces Sreesanth's life ban to 7 years, ends next year

BCCI official ombudsman DK Jain announced pacer S Sreesanth's life ban for his involvement in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal has been reduced to seven years. This comes months after the Supreme Court set aside the life ban imposed on Sreesanth and asked BCCI to take a fresh decision on the quantum of punishment. Sreesanth will be 37 years of age by the time the ban ends next year and will be eligible to play cricket professionally as well as be allowed to be associated with the sport as a coach or mentor or TV commentator/expert in the future.
