Govt decides to issue all pending income-tax refunds up to INR 5 lakh to be released

The Income Tax Department will release all pending income tax refunds up to INR 5 lakh immediately, in a move that will benefit around 14 lakh taxpayers. The department of Revenue under the Ministry of Finance informed that All GST and custom refunds will also be released, which will provide benefit to around 1 lakh business entities, including MSMEs. The finance ministry said the total refund amount will be to the tune of INR 18,000 crore. Src:

Over 400 million Indian workers may sink into poverty: United Nation

According to the UN report, about 400 million people working in the informal economy in India are at risk of falling deeper into poverty due to the Coronavirus crisis. Workers and businesses are facing catastrophe, in both developed and developing economies. The report said the disruption to the world's economies caused by the COVID-19 pandemic is expected to wipe out 6.7 per cent of working hours globally in the second quarter of this year – the equivalent of 195 million jobs worldwide. PM Modi ask Ministers to strategise a plan to run the state post lockdown

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday advised his ministers gear up states for a ‘new normal’ post the lockdown. He asked them to work on impact on economy caused by the coronavirus and that the country has still ling fight against the pandemic. Modi during a video conferencing said that it essential to strategise for upcoming conditions, including a graded plan to slowly reopen activity outside of hotspot areas. 42-year-old businessman in Gujarat commits suicide during quarantine

In Palanpur district of Gujarat, a 42-year-old man identified as Vinodbhai Purushottambhai Chaurasia has committed suicide. He was put in quarantine on March 20. According to police, his quarantine period ended on Friday and the coronavirus test reports were negative as well. Police said he was troubled by family feuds and constant quarrelling within the family. Further investigation is underway. Src:
