Congress Working Committee set to meet today to pick next party chief

The Congress Working Committee (CWC) will meet today to pick Rahul Gandhi’s successor as the next party chief after he resigned from the post in May while taking responsibility for his party’s loss in the Lok Sabha elections. Among the frontrunners for the post is Dalit leader Mukul Wasnik. The names of Jyotiraditya Scindia and Sachin Pilot have also come up. There were suggestions of Manmohan Singh, Priyanka Gandhi and Venugopal as the possible contenders to lead the party. Rajasthan: 5-year-old raped, accused absconding

In Rajasthan's Bhilwara region, a five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her tuition teacher. According to the police, the accused lured the girl and took her behind a temple to rape her. He further said that the victim is out of danger and is undergoing treatment at a hospital. The police added that the accused is absconding and they are trying their best to nab him. NDTV founders Prannoy and Radhika Roy stopped from flying abroad at Mumbai airport

NDTV co-founders Prannoy and Radhika Roy were stopped from flying abroad by authorities at Mumbai airport on Friday. NDTV said, "They have been stopped on the basis of a fake and wholly unsubstantiated corruption case filed by CBI about an ICICI loan taken by their company, which was repaid". Prannoy and Radhika Roy are being investigated by the CBI in a money laundering case. Both of them were traveling to an undisclosed destination and were scheduled to return on August 16. Uttarakhand wins Most Film-Friendly State Award at National Film Awards 2018
